YouTube vs TikTok boxing fights

On June 12th, 2021, the much-anticipated “Battle of the Platforms” hosted by “Social Gloves” was held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It featured 8 YouTubers and 8 TikTokers who went head to head in various battles. Emily Austin, a sports journalist, had the privilege of being the correspondent for the battle.

  • The first match saw Ryan Johnston, a YouTuber, going up against Cale Saurage from TikTok. After a tense Round 1, Saurage narrowly won 10-9. However, Johnston managed to put in a strong performance in Round 2, leading to a draw of 10-10. Johnston then continued to dominate the next two rounds, resulting in the referee calling a standing eight-count in each one. Ultimately, Johnston emerged victorious in this match.
  • YouTuber Landon McBroom was pitted against Ben Azelart of TikTok in a fight, with the latter having not thrown a punch in over a month prior to the match. Nevertheless, the battle began with an eight-count in the first round in favor of McBroom, and after a second standing eight count for Azelart in Round 2, the referee ended the fight in McBroom’s victory by TKO.
  • The competition between YouTube star Tanner Fox and TikToker Ryland Storms was called off as Fox decided to back out. The grounds for his decision remain unclear.
  • During the first main event of the night, the British YouTuber FaZe Jarvis triumphed over the TikToker Michael Le. Michael Le had two standing eight counts in Round 1, then in Round 2 he was struck with a powerful right hook which caused his defeat. FaZe Jarvis won the fourth match by knockout.

  • The YouTuber DDG emerged victorious in his fight with TikToker Nate Wyatt, with a Unanimous Decision by the judges. DDG landed a total of 40 punches, while Nate Wyatt only managed to land 8. Even though DDG had a clear advantage, this was the first fight of the collection to go the full five rounds, with eight standing eights in the first and third rounds.
  • The YouTuber AnEsonGib was up against the TikTok star Tayler Holder in a boxing match. With AnEsonGib being an undefeated amateur boxer and Holder having trained with Canelo Alvarez, the match was close and went to a majority draw. AnEsonGib was the more aggressive one, coming out strong in the first few rounds, while Holder went for a more strategic approach, possibly expecting AnEsonGib to tire out in the later rounds. Unfortunately for Holder, the result was a draw.
  • Prior to the fight between Deji Olatunji and Vinnie Hacker, Vinnie was greatly underestimated. This might have been the cause of his win over Deji. The critics were proved wrong as Vinnie emerged victorious in the end, scoring a much-needed win for Team TikTok. The match was preceded by a slower match between DDG and Nate Wyatt. Both the contenders had put their all into the fight. During the course of the match, it had initially seemed that Deji had the upper hand. However, Vinnie’s Round 2 right hook changed the entire momentum. The referee eventually called a halt to the fight in Round 3 as Vinnie kept punching Deji who was cornered.
